Winemakers Selection 'Shiraz'
A fine selection of some of the winemaker’s favourite wines over the years, both young and old. The Winemakers Selection pack gives you the opportunity to taste through the development of our wines in the cellar.
The 2012 Eagles Rest Eden Valley Shiraz is a fine reflection of both region and vintage. An opaque dark purple hue envelopes to rim of the glass. Intense, concentrated dark plum and mulberry fruit radiate from this wine with subtle leafy Eden Valley complexity filling the nose. Waves of dark florals and musk like aromas complete a dense and alluring bouquet. The plum and mulberry characters flow over to the palate to provide a soft, sweet-fruited entry backed up by classic Eden Valley leafiness.
"From the great '14 vintage, only 500 dozen made. As is typical, it is medium-bodied, with an earthy/savoury background to the plum and blackberry fruits, accentuated here by the impact of French oak. The tannins are typical, and provide the structure for long-term ageing - Cellar up to 2044" - James Halliday 2017
"From a very cool Hunter vintage, especially for shiraz. It surges with predominantly red and purple fruits that appear first on the bouquet, then take control of the mid-palate, thence through to the finish and aftertaste. No more than medium-bodied, but will amaze future generations who taste it for the first time - Cellar up to 2041." - James Halliday 2017
"The bright, deep colour sends a signal that this is worth paying close attention to, and doesn't deceive; it is at the upper end of medium-bodied, replete with a mosaic of red and black fruits, fine-grained, gently savoury tannins and integrated oak. It has length and perfect balance, guaranteeing a long and prosperous life - Cellar up to 2040" - James Halliday 2016
A blend of fruit from multiple blocks on the property including the Shed Blocks 60-year old vines. Pale ruby red in colour. Red fruits and roses fill the bouquet and carry onto the palate. The palate is soft and gentle with notes of mulberry and spice. A more feminine, delicate Shiraz when compared to wines from the 2014 vintage. Drink now or age for a further 5 years.
Mild growing conditions for the 2011 harvest have provided us with an abundance of primary fruit in the wines from this vintage. Intense Raspberry and red berry fruit aromas fill the bouquet with a hint in cinnamon spice and mocha filling out the nose. Refined tannins and bright acidity lift the berry and plum flavours in this wine. A soft and silky structure fives the palate length and structure. This wine will drink well over the next 10 years.
